Portable Catalytic Heaters

What are the different types of heaters?

As the cold season approaches, many are on their toes looking for a heater that will suit their need. With the increase in oil and liquid propane gas prices, people are considering to heat just a portion of their homes. This is where space and portable catalytic heaters come in There are different kinds of heaters available in the market today. Here is a brief discussion of each type to help you choose the right heater for you.

The first type of heater in our list is the convection heater. It is an electric heater that heats up very quickly with the use of heating coils. These types of heaters usually have thermostat that will automatically turn on and off depending on the level of heat that the user sets. It also has a small fan which is responsible for circulating the heat throughout a room. These heaters come in variety of heat settings, from 750 to 1500 watts. It is not recommended if you have toddlers running around the house because it can be a safety hazard. If you decide to purchase this kind of heater, make sure that they have safety features because the coils in this heater is prone to fire hazard. A helpful feature would be turning itself off once knocked.

Another type of electric heater is the ceramic heater. It is a relatively new type of heating device. It comes as a small box which delivers a high level of heat for its size. It is very portable and does not use as much electricity as compared to those that has coil heaters.

There is also the oil filled radiant heater. This heater looks like the old fashion radiator that usually comes with wheel for portability. It is an electric heater that has to be permanently filled with oil. Although heating up takes more time for this type of heater, it gives a steady economical heat source and most people who have used this kind of heater are very satisfied with its performance.

There are also non electric heaters such as the kerosene heater. This type of heater is very good for heating larger space since it heating capacity is twice the largest heater previously mentioned. Although a lot of people use this type of heater in an enclosed area, it is not recommended to do so.
Another type of non electric heater is the natural or LP Gas heater. This heater is usually wall mounted or with a base. It has to be connected to a natural gas line. According to most manufacturers, this heater does not require venting. If you plan to purchase one of this, choose the one that has an oxygen depletion sensor. The level of oxygen has to be monitored because if it reaches a poor level, it could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

A popular non electric heater that’s making a comeback is the wood burning heaters. It is tedious to have this though because it requires to have and adequate chimney which is usually expensive. If you are planning to have a wood burning stove installed at home, follow the guidelines of where to put it and consult your insurance agent before actually having it installed.
In choosing any of the above mentioned heaters, it is very important that you follow the safety measures carefully. Make sure that all the members of the household know how to deal with the kind of heater you have.
